While checking out a pretty lady some time ago, a good friend of mine commented, “Wow, she has legs up to her neck!” And honestly, it did look like she was all legs and then, head. His comment came to mind when I was whipping up this article.

Lucky Magazine did a fun little article on how to look taller with three easy styling tricks. Because let’s be honest, no matter how tall or short we are, we would all love to have mile-long legs any day of the week, right? So, here are the tips.

Keep the colour palette light. Supposedly pairing up pale tones (like the dress and the shoes duo above) creates a visual space.

Always choose the flared fit pants. The cut makes your legs look long and lean especially if you’re wearing heels.

Punctuate properly like on these two photos above. Lucky Mag says that when wearing shorter pants (or rolling them up), always leave a waistband exposed.

We’ll admit it – as much as we love our Fabio Rusconi wedges, and our crazy United Nude Eamz pumps that always strike conversation, there are times when all we want is just to skip around in sneakers. Here’s a fun way to make your favourite sneakers a conversational piece too!

DIYers have been glueing glitter to their shoes for decades! The most challenging part of this DIY was figuring out what material I was going to use to create the steel toe. I was thrilled to find the little pyramid studs in my own craft closet to complete the look. And though I leave a little trail of fairy dust behind me wherever I go, I have to admit, I love the way they turned out.

* Painter’s tape
* Iron-on silver pyramid studs {which I can’t seem to find online}

* Squeeze a large amount of fabric glue into a cup or plate. Tape down the sides of your sneakers with your painter’s tape. Using a paintbrush, apply a moderately thick layer of glue to the tongue of your shoe.

* Place your sneaker in an open box and sprinkle a generous amount of glitter over your glue.

* Once your tongue is almost dry, remove the tape from the sides of your shoe and apply a generous layer of glue to your sides. It’s best to do one at a time because the glue dries pretty fast.

* Sprinkle your larger silver glitter and shake to remove excess.

* Since I was trying to mimic the charcoal silver Miu Miu shoes, and couldn’t find dark silver glitter, I added fine black glitter on top of my large silver glitter to fill in some of the tiny areas to make it appear darker. {this was my preference. If you can find a darker silver glitter, this step is unnecessary}

* Shake your shoe and allow the black fine glitter to settle and discard any unwanted silver glitter. If you missed any spots, now is your chance to add a little more glue and fill them in.

* To create a faux steel toe, I used small iron-on pyramid studs which I found at JoAnn’s a few years ago.

* Paint a generous amount of glue on the rubber toe of your sneaker. You’ll have to work quickly because it dries fast!

* Begin adding your studs at the center where the rubber meets the glitter and work out from there to either of the edges. Then create a sort of T by placing studs in a row down to the tip toe of your shoe and work out from there.

*I didn’t want to go over the black line around the sole so I created a bit of a pyramid effect with staggered edges.

* A pyramid with pyramid studs ;)

* Hoping to get a dark gray, I dyed my shoelaces black with Rit Dye. However, the dye barely took at all and left the laces a very light gray. I almost wish I just left them white. My advice if you want a darker shoe lace is to just buy them or use a satin ribbon instead.

If you also belong to the bunch of shoe crazy lot, you definitely realize how much can a pair of shoes accentuate your glamor quotient and enhance your overall look. Just as makeup and clothing trends update with the change in seasons, trends in shoe collection also undergo constant change.

While there are some shoes that are more comfortable than stylish, there are others that are glamorous and sexy. It’s you who have to decide what kind of shoes will be a better fit for you. So, brace yourself to acquaint yourself with the most happening of the Spring 2012 shoe trends:

Metallic Toes – Considered to be solving more of a practical purpose earlier of increasing the longevity of shoes, metallic toes have now become the most popular shoe trend of the mainstream 2012 collection.

Braided Sandals – Back with a bang will be braided sandals walking the ramp again in Spring 2012. Unusual braiding styles and bright colors enhances the oomph exuded by these beauties.

Shining Shoes – No! Do not mistake them to be your footwear that goes with your sexy halloween costumes only. Shining shoes look sensational and make for a great party wear. You may want to team them with one of your shiny sequins dresses. Golden and silver colors are sure to give you the flattering show-stopper-attention.

Transparent Shoes – Okay, the transparent shoes introduced last year didn’t appeal much to anyone but this year the number of designers who decided to take this trend forward has increased dramatically. Now, the sheer vinyl shoes simply sees to be the trend that people were earlier hesitant to try.

Pointed Toes – Rounded toes have finally taken a backseat after stealing the thunder since a couple of seasons, giving way to pointed toes. You will see pointed toes featured on shoes, however booties and sandals will still continue to have rounded toes mostly.

A lot of people with Hunter rain boots find that they sweat white residue and it can be extremely difficult to remove. Here I have a solution that will not only remove the white residue from hunter rain boots, but it will also shine your boots so they look brand new!

Hunter Rain Boot Company has the following to say about this white residue wax bloom:

During the manufacturing of the natural rubber compound used to make Hunter boots, a white wax is inserted into the mix to help protect the rubber. During certain conditions, this wax can be brought to the surface giving the boots a white, cloudy look known as “blooming”. It does this to protect the rubber from drying out. This is a natural characteristic of the boot, not a defect, and can be wiped off with a damp cloth.

However, a lot of people find that a simple damp cloth is just not enough to remove this white residue. A lot of people try things like rubbing oil and other shining compounds on the boot which only masks the problem because when that oil or shine wears off, the white residue starts to show again. A lot of those solutions only work for a couple weeks at most.

The solution I have here will remove the white residue from hunter rain boots permanently as well as give them a bright deep lustrous shine. The instructions are very easy to follow when you have the right tools. You will need two things to get started with the white residue removal:

Goo Gone Spray Gel

UV TECH Protectant & Rejuvenator

You will probably have trouble finding these products in your local store, and a lot of people online tried to tell me this stuff was only available in England! I had to scour the internet to figure out that I could find them on Amazon.com for a pretty good price. The two links above take you to their location on amazon.com

GOO GONE white wax residue removal

Step 1:Remove the white wax residue from your hunter rain boot

Use GOO GONE to remove the while bloom waxy residue. Spray the GOO GONE directly onto the boot or cloth and use the cloth to rub the boot until the wax is gone. You will find it does take a little elbow grease but it does come of pretty easily, especially compared to just a “damp cloth”.

Take a look at the picture to the right. It shows how the GOO GONE has removed almost all of the white residue from the part of the boot I cleaned with it. (See bottom right of image)

Step 2: Use UV TECH to further clean and shine the rubber

UV TECH protectant and rejuvenator will further remove traces of the white wax residue from your hunter rain boot while giving them a deep lustrous shine. Spray the UV TECH onto the boot or a new cloth and rub the formula into the boot.

UV Tech on toe VS GOO GONE on heel

This really is a two step process. Just GOO GONE will clean the white wax residue off but it will still leave them kind of “rough” looking. The UV TECH removes the last traces of the wax and gives them the shine… but you cant just do one of these without the other. You need both to get these hunter rain boots to really shine.

The UV TECH also has the benefit of protecting your boot from UV RAYS and other nasty elements.

The picture to the right shows the difference between just removing the white wax residue with goo gone (on the heel) and doing step to to shine the Hunter rain boot with UV TECH (on the toes).

Now I went through these steps pretty quickly for purposes of demonstration and didn’t spend more than a couple on minutes on the process (which shows how easy it is with these products). You’ll probably want to take a q-tip or something to spend more time around the corners and decorative areas to get all of the white residue “bloom” off of the boot as you can see that I left some near the edges of seams.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURE

Take a look at how awful the original hunter rain boot looked with its white waxy residue bloom, and compare it to the 5 minutes I spent cleaning it up (on the left). With these two product, it’s easy to get your Hunter rain boots looking like new again!

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and if there’s one man in your life you shouldn’t forget about, it’s your good ole’ Daddy.

Research indicates that a father greatly influences his daughter’s future romantic relationships. Thus, Focus on the Family Singapore (FOTFS), a local charity, is organizing the Date with Dad (DwD) campaign to:

• enhance parental involvement in shaping their children’s values and attitudes towards sexuality and relationships.
• encourage fathers to affirm their daughter’s value and worth by taking her out on a special date, particularly as a rite of passage.

In view of Focus on the Family’s 10th anniversary celebrations, DwD 2012 will take on the additional component of an exclusive high tea for prisoners and their daughters.

SOLE 2 SOLE supports Date with Dad – bring your Dad shopping at our store and find out what promos you can enjoy if you get your dad a pair of shoes! Sounds fab, no?

Most of us turn to clothes to fix our common body hang-ups, but we tend to forget that shoes help show off the favourite parts of your body, or even help make the least favourite bits a tad better.

Problem: Small and petite

If your legs are on the shorter and slimmer side, you usually would want to add height to your frame. Think platforms, wedges and heels without straps. Straps would almost cut your leg off in two, making you look even smaller. Make sure there’s nothing in the line of vision between your heel and the rest of your leg.

If you want to wear flats, make sure you’re wearing a dress that falls above your knee – anything below it will make you look even tinier.

Problem: Short and thick

Watch Jersey Shore – and whatever Snooki is wearing on her feet – do the complete opposite. Instead, try a simple pair of heels with a bright pop of colour or a unique print so attention gets drawn away from your short legs. Some other flattering choices are open-toed shoes with a solid heel and boots that end just below the knee, not mid-calf.

Since your legs tend to be on the thicker side, stay away from gladiator flats or any other shoe style that wraps around your ankle. On that note, it’s best to avoid flats as well, because they can make your legs look shorter and thicker.

Problem: Tall and thin

Being tall and thin is almost never a problem, and if someone tells you that you shouldn’t be wearing heels because you’re tall enough – stick your leg out next time they’re walking past and trip them.

Show off your modelesque physique with a pair of strappy sandals with an ankle strap (it will also give some edge to your feet) especially if you have thin ankles. Ballet flats are great for you because you have the height advantage. Stay away from chunky heels and platforms because they may overwhelm your ankles.

Problem: Muscular legs

All those triathlons and working out gave you “man legs”, but the truth is – toned legs are all kinds of sexy. You probably have a killer booty too!

To elongate the leg, choose a super high heel – in particular, pointy, open-toed shoes and stilettos that will make your legs look leaner. In addition, avoid rounded toe pumps, small squared heels and delicate styles like ballet flats or kitten heels because they can add weight to your legs and make them look heavier.

When in doubt, try on a pair of stilettos. This universally-flattering shoe will always make you look taller, sexier and thinner. What more could you possibly want?
